Until the beginning of 2017, the locomotives were used almost exclusively in the Hungarian domestic traffic and in front of EC/EN trains Budapest-Bucharest. In order to free up 470 class locomotives for the push-pull trains purchased by the ÖBB, the 480 class locomotive has since also been used in Austria.
