The Jenbacher Werke in Tyrol built a total of 65 of these little twin-axle diesel locomotives until 1966. With their striking, cast-iron front shields which served as ballast weights, this locomotive was operated in shunting and work train service across the whole of Austria. These locomotives could also be found hauling passenger trains with one to two coaches on Lower Austrian branch lines. The last engines were retired from normal service in 2003. However, some are still in use today as factory and work train locomotives under the class designation X262.
